Sweet and Sour Meatballs

  • Meatballs:
  • 1/3 cup minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • Sauce:
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • Several dashes Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 large can chunk pineapple w/ juice
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 red bell pepper
DIRECTIONS
  1. Meatballs:
  2. Saute the onions in butter or margarine.
  3. Beat together the egg, salt, bread crumbs, allspice, nutmeg, flour, pepper and milk.
  4. Add onions, ground beef and pork to the bread crumb mixture and mix well.
  5. Form into balls and brown in 2 tablespoons butter or margarine.
  6. Sauce:
  7. Mix cornstarch, vinegar and sugar and cook until clear.
  8. Add several dashes of Tabasco, Worcestershire, mustard, pineapple w/ juice and green and red peppers.
  9. Add meatballs to sauce and simmer several hours in crock pot.
