Split Pea with Beef (or not)

  • 2 packages Manischewitz soup,1 split pea, 1 mushroom barley
  • Water as directed.
  • 1 lb beef stew meat
  • 1 small onion cut into large chunks
  • olive oil
  1. Heat 2 tbs oil in large soup pot. Add cut up onion, and add meat making sure they are separated. Brown well on both sides. Cover with 2-3 cups of water and simmer for 1 hour or until tender. Add both soup packages minus the seasoning packets. Add water to match the total amount required per the package. May add extra water if it gets too thick. Simmer per the package instructions.
  2. Grandma sometimes added extra barley or some egg noodles.
Great alternative to split pea with ham, if youre not a fan of ham.
