Snickerdoodles

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening (I prefer the butter-flavored)
  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1.4 tsp salt
  • 2 T sugar
  • 2 T cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and eggs. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.
  3. Shape dough by rounded teaspoon into balls. Mix the 2 T sugar and cinnamon together. Roll balls in mixture (as a kid, I loved helping my mom with this).
  4. Place balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Bake 8-10 minutes or until aset. Immediately remove from baking sheet.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
I have a cookie party every year, where I bake hundreds of cookies (and make a few non-cookie treats). Snickerdoodles are another favorite, and I include them on the menu every year.
