RUSTIC ITALIAN BREAD

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 3 Cup flour
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 egg white beaten
  • Cornmeal
DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine all ingredients except egg white & cornmeal according to bread machine directions.
  2. Process on dough setting.
  3. Remove dough from bread maker and punch down.
  4. Cover & let rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Shape into a 12-inch baguette shape and place on cornmeal coated (UNGREASED) cookie sheet.
  6. Cover & let rise for 30-35 min.
  7. Heat oven to 375 and make 1 deep slash lengthwise in top of loaf.
  8. Brush with egg white.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until loaf tests done.

This can be done in a bread machine except for shaping the loaf and baking.
