Grandma Mary's Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 2/3 c. shortening (part Crisco, part butter/margarine)
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. flour (1/4 more for rounder cookie)
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional, preferably not)
  • 6 oz. chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
  1. Thoroughly mix shortening, sugar, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt. (If you are using self-rising flour, omit the soda and salt.) Blend dry mixture with wet mixture. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips. Bake 8-10 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet.
