Devils Food Cake

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2-3/4 almond extract(according to taste)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 cup baking cocoa
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 cups buttermilk
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat oven to 350.
  2. Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Beat sugar, butter, vanilla and almond extract in large bowl on medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  4. Mix flour, cocoa, soda and salt; beat into sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk on medium speed, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Beat 1 minute longer.
  6. Pour into pans. Bake 30-35 minutes.
  7. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire rack. Cool completely. Frost as desired.
