Brownies with Praline Topping

  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 1 oz squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 4 1 oz squares semisweet chocolate
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  1. In heavy 3 quart saucepan over low heat, melt butter and chocolates, stirring frequently.
  2. Remove saucepan from heat.
  3. With wire whisk beat in sugar then eggs until well blended.
  4. Stir in vanilla, salt, then flour just until blended.
  5. Spread batter evenly in greased 13x9" pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
  7. Cool brownies in pan.
  8. If not using brownies within 1 day, cover cooled brownies with foil and refrigerate or freeze for longer storage.
  9. Spread with praline topping and cut into bars. PRALINE: In 2 quart saucepan over medium low heat, heat butter and brown sugar until mixture melts and bubbles, about 5 minutes.
  10. Remove saucepan from heat.
  11. With wire whisk, beat in vanilla and powdered sugar until it is smooth.
Enjoy! I remember requesting my mother make these for every single birthday. I would much rather have had these brownies than a special birthday cake! When I have them, now, I have lots of fond memories. Kathy
