Bread and Butter Pudding

  • 4 slices bread
  • margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 4 Tbs. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C (about 350 degrees F)
  2. Butter one side of the bread slices and cut them diagonally.
  3. Arrange bread in two individual ramikens, overlapping/layering the bread
  4. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over bread
  5. Top with raisins
  6. Beat the eggs lightly in a bowl, adding milk
  7. Pour egg and milk mixture evenly over the bread
  8. Put the ramikens into the preheated oven
  9. Bake for 35 mins or till top is golden
  10. Best served hot
My husband, a Brit, demanded I learn to make something "normal." He was always going on about bread and butter pudding, so I decided I had better learn to make it. For me, it was an acquired taste- but I know many people love it. This is the best recipe I have come across, and it is the one I now stick to. Very easy!
