Apple Oat Bars
INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • ⅓ cup walnuts, chopped
  • 2 cups apples, thinly sliced
  • Confectioners’ sugar
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Mix flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon until well mixed.
  3. Add brown sugar and oats.
  4. Add butter, egg, vanilla and mix well.
  5. Place ½ dough in bottom of greased 9” square pan.
  6. Sprinkle walnuts on dough.
  7. Arrange apple slices over top dough.
  8. Sprinkle remaining dough over top of apple slices and press lightly.
  9. Bake in preheated oven 25 to 30 minutes.
  10. Cool before removing from pan.
  11. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar over top after cutting into serving size pieces.
