Why I Love This Recipe
(see sour dough starter)
Ingredients You'll Need
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp. butter
2 cups hot milk
1 pkg. yeast
starter left in the bowl of the recipe above
2 cups flour (a mix if desired)
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
4 cups flour (all purpose)
Directions
Stir honey and butter into the hot milk and let cool; when cool stir in the packet of yeast and add to the starter; mix in the two cups of flour. Add salt, sugar and baking soda.
Cover bowl and let sit in a warm spot for 30 minutes.
Then stir in the 4 cups of white flour.
Turn dough out of bowl onto a floured board and knead (10 minutes).
Cut dough into 3 or 4 portions, shape into loaves and place in greased pans.
Let rise again in warm spot for another 45 minutes.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes, reduce heat to 300 degrees and bake for another 10 minutes or until loaves are nicely browned.
Remove loaves from pans and cool on a rack.
***To make another batch of bread, take the 1/2 cup of starter reserved in the refrigerator and add to it 2 cups of flour and slightly less than 2 cups warm water. Let stand covered in a warm place overnight. In the morning proceed with the bread recipe above.
