Why I Love This Recipe

These are also called New Yorkers. It is something my youngest son wants in the Christmas baking to satisfy his sweet tooth.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
4 tbsp. cocoa or 2 sq. of semi-sweet chocolate, melted and cooled
2 cups graham wafer crumbs
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup butter
3 tbsp. milk
2 tbsp. vanilla custard powder or vanilla pudding powder
2 cups icing sugar
4 sq. semi-sweet chocolate
1 tsp. butter

Mix the 1/2 cup butter, sugar, egg and cocoa.

Set over boiling water and stir until mixture resembles a custard.

Combine crumbs, coconut and nuts.

Combine with the custard mixture, blending well.

Spread and press tightly into a 9 inch square pan.

Cream the 1/4 cup butter, milk, custard powder and icing sugar.

Spread over mixture in pan.

Melt the chocolate over hot water; add butter and blend well.

Spread over the icing.

Let set. Chill and keep refrigerated.
