Grandmother Ida's Breaded Tomatoes

This is a old family recipe and a different side dish for a pleasant change.
Ingredients You'll Need
4-5 large homegrown tomatoes skinned and cut into quarters or you can use a large can of stewed tomatoes drained.
1 med. onion diced
1/4 c. sugar
6 slices of white bread or you can use stale bread. broken in pieces
salt and pepper to taste
Place tomatoes, onion and sugar in a large sauce pan and bring to a boil. Then turn down to med low and simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often. Add salt and pepper. When the tomatoes are cooked down, add your bread, stir and cook for 5 more minutes. Serve hot.
