"Delicious low fat and sugar sorbet."
Serves 4 | Prep Time 15 mins | Cook Time No cooking involved. Freezing/Cooling time will depend on your method of freezingWhy I Love This Recipe
I am not sure where I got this recipe from and I haven't made it for years. I am now trying to get all my recipes onto bake space, so tried it again. I now own an electric ice cream maker and this comes out well in this. Is truly far more healthy than normal sorbet as it has the fraction of the sugar.
Please note that this contains raw egg white, which is not suitable for all people, especially those with weakened immune systems
Ingredients You'll Need
2 oranges
1 small ripe banana
1 large lemon
2 tbsp clear honey
1 egg white
Directions
Halve oranges, remove pulp and juice. (if you keep the orange shells intact, you can use these to display the sorbet)
Liquidise oranges pulp and juice, banana, juice of lemon and honey
Freezing method 1 - pour into a plastic container, cover and freeze for 1 and a half hours, or until just set around the edges. Beat mixture to break up ice crystals. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture. Put into suitable covered container. Freeze for at least 3 hours
Freezing method - ice cream maker. Cool the orange/banana mixture for 2 hours in the fridge, then pour into ice cream maker and follow the instructions. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture when it is half frozen. Continue to churn in ice cream maker until as frozen as it will get. Put into a suitable container and freeze
Remove from freezer 5 mins before serving. For the hand made method, this may well need to be longer as it will freeze harder
