Michelle Losey's Chunky ChiliThis basic recipe came from my Grandmother through my mother and then to me. But like always I had to change it ever so slightly to make it my own by making it chunky. Everybody always asks how do you make the hamburger chunky? Simple make sure the meat is frozen when you put it in the pan :) Good for cold days (my sons fav recipe but he refuses to eat it w/out saltine crackers lol)
Michelle Losey's Chicken SoupBone soups are very good for you and chicken soups are still used as medicine in many households including ours! This version,my mothers version 'Barb Fankhauser's chicken soup' And my Great Grandmas "Linda Williamson's Carcass Soup" are very good for colds and flu! It even helps sick animals by the dropperful :)

Barbecue Sauce for Ribs Chicken ect. Linda Williamson's StyleThis recipe came from my Dutch Great Grandma and was a guarded family secret 'till my ma gave it to the place she worked Phil's Ribs. Shame on her!!! I use this for my western style barbecue ribs but I also really like it for pulled pork sandwiches too :) (where the pulled pork cooks in this sauce not just spooned over it!) This recipe can be used w/ pork, beef, chicken, wild game you name it. If you can barbecue it you need this sauce to do it in! Pic of large barbecued rib w/ this sauce yumm!

Creamy Dutch Pea Soup (or Bean) Linda Williamson's RecipeThis recipe comes from my Dutch great grandma :) This is a traditional Dutch recipe! It's suppose to be slow cooked stirring often until it becomes thick enough to stand spoon in it. Served w/ homemade bread it is quite a filling meal! I personally like it a lil thinner. Still thick! Never thin by no means!!! Just not so thick the spoon stands up. If making Bean soup just change the peas to beans! This Bean soup recipe became popular in the New England states as the immigrants 1st landed in the New England area. It is still popular there and in the midwest :) There are alot of different kinds of dried beans you can use find one you like or experiment by mixing all different kinds :) or mix peas and beans together. *NOTE: Try to use unfluoridated water 'cuz peas and beans pick up alot of fluoride!
City Chicken Barb Fankhauser's StyleI remember my mom making this :) I think this recipe came from her friends here in Ohio. From what I've heard it seems to be made in the Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Indiana region. I think the original recipe calls for veal cubes w/ the pork but we refuse to eat baby animals!!! But adult beef tastes good too :)

Linda Williamson's Broccoli and Carrot MashFrom my Dutch Great Grandma :) Vegetable mashes are very traditional sides. With the most popular being traditional hutsut a mash of potatoes, carrots and onions. But to me it's a lil bland for a side and tastes much better served w/ beef and gravy! This brocc and carrot mash is a stand alone side and one of our favs! The other mash we make most often is one I concocted a mix of my fried corn and peppers with mashed potatoes. That one tastes great as a stand alone side and w/ beef and gravy! Mais Stamppot ( Corn, peppers and potato mash served over beef and gravy)My Dutch Great Grandma made this kind of food BUT I don't remember her making this corn mash... It was my own concoction that my family loves! I asked my Dutch friend here on BakeSpace Fanmajie what its called and she named it Mais Stamppot :) In the pic I served it w/ broccoli and carrot mash another fam favorite!
Linda Williamson's Homemade ApplesauceAnother good recipe handed dwn from my Dutch great grandma :) The hardest part about making this sauce is picking the right apples but once you get it dwn to your favorites the hard parts done :) The secret is using 1/2 pie apples the kind that tend to hold there shape when baked in a pie (Like: Cortland, Granny Smith, Gold rush, Ida red, Johnagold, Rhode Island greening, Braeburn, Northern spy, and Pink lady) and 1/2 sauce apples ones that are also good in cider are good choices too. (Like: Melrose, Macintosh, Honeycrisp, Johnathan, Winesap,Arkansas black and Rome) The sauce pictured is a combo of Melrose and Cortland. You can add several dif types if you want as long as they are split even pie and sauce apples :) (I used about 1/2 cup Br sugar for this batch).You can get more ideas of apples to choose from here: http://www.specialtyproduce.com/

Buffalo & Beef Meatloaf Michelle Losey's StyleBuffalo is a leaner meat than beef. So substituting it in beef recipes lowers your fat and cholesterol intake. Which is always good
PUMPKIN CUSTARD OR PIEMichelle Losey's version. I normally made this farm to table. Using home grown C. maxima or C. moschata squash or mix of those two. I quit using C. pepo pumpkins as I found they were too watery, tasteless or tasted like gourds. Gross! This recipe is for pumpkin custard or as pie filling makes 2 pies. My mother used regular Libby's premade canned pumpkin pie or if she bought pure unspiced libby's pumpkin pie filling she made the libby's pie on the can but changed the spices to cinnamon and nutmeg. My grandmother used libby's pure pumpkin and followed Libby's pie recipe on the can but changed spices to cinnamon, allspice nutmeg, ginger and cloves. My great grandma used home grown squash like me but she used a pinch or 2 of the spices nutmeg, cardamon, cloves and ginger. But kept the cinnamon at 2 tsp The custard can be used in a parfait type desserts w/ honey vanilla homemade yogurt, whip cream ect. yumm!
