Eva's Chocolate Cake

INGREDIENTS
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 ½ cup cocoa or 2 squares chocolate
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • FILLING:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening or margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cream shortening and sugar. Beat eggs and add buttermilk. Sift flour and measure. Add soda, salt, and cocoa. Add dry ingredients to shortening mix. Add boiling water last. Bake in a greased and floured 9 x 13 dish at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  2. After cake is cooled make the filling.
  3. Let this boil up and then heat until it begins to thicken and put over the cake in the pan.
